How to Handle Unknown Serial Number For Delivery

Within this guide you are going to learn how you can use a serial number for an outbound delivery, if it (not yet) known for the material and/or storage location within S4Hana.

Context

  • You are trying to issue a laptop with a valid serial number. This means, that the ordered item equals the model of the serial number you want to issue.
  • The serial number was never booked into S4Hana.

Fix

  1. Determine the state of the serial number using the Display Material Serial Number - IQ03 app. For a serial number to be (generally able) to be booked out, it needs to be in the ESTO state.

  2. Determine the history of the serial number within the serial number view. This allows you to understand why the serial number can not be booked out. In the following example the serial number was unknown to the system and the first time it encountered it was through an outbound delivery. This however means, it was never booked into any storage location and can therefore not be issued from any storage location.

  3. Given that the serial number was never booked into a storage location, use the Post Goods Receipt without Reference app in S4Hana.

    1. The material number needs to match the correct material of the serial number. This means, you should never book a serial number for e.g. a MacBook 16" 32GB into the MacBook 16" 16GB material.
    2. Use 1010 as plant and 0001 as storage location for the booking.
    3. Within the item supply the serial number.
  4. Post the goods receipt.
  5. Retry the delivery using e.g. the API of the BProc Gateway.
